The Emergency Service is subject to the following terms and conditions:
• Emergency consultations take place at 259, Bilton Road, Rugby; the main surgery premises.
• The emergency service is contacted only through the main surgery telephone number, namely 01788 812650. During out of hours periods, this number will enable you to hear a message giving the mobile phone on which the duty vet can be contacted. There will be a main number and a back up number on the message.
• Out of hours times begin during the week at 19.00 and finish at 08.00.
• Out of hours times at weekends begin at 12.00 on Sat and finish at 08.00 on Monday
• Pet owners who are not clients of the practice will initially be directed to contact the veterinary practice with which they are registered.
• Pet owners who are registered with the practice, but have an emergency associated with treatment performed by another veterinary surgery (eg neutering etc), will be directed to the emergency service provided by that other practice.
• Home visits are discouraged on the basis of the inevitable delay in summoning professional help for the on-call vet, the lack of good facilities to examine pets at home, the practical difficulties of administering effective treatment for emergency cases at home, the need to hospitalise most emergency cases and the time delay in driving to and looking for the address.
• Animals undergoing emergency hospitalisation will be attended full time until the patient is considered to be stable and then monitored at regular intervals by staff returning to the surgery to assess progress.
• Emergency consultations are more expensive than the normal examinations to cover the extra costs associated with administering the service. The fee for attendance of an emergency case will be £95.00, rising to £115.69 for hours after midnight (January 2011). These prices include VAT but do not include costs of treatment or hospitalisation. Further costs may be incurred should repeated visits be necessary during the night.
• Emergency consultation fees will be due at the time of the consultation.
• If you have never previously registered with a vet, we will be prepared to register you at the time of emergency consultation, but full and complete payment at the time will be mandatory and if larger costs are projected, then a deposit will be required.
• Their animal being seen by a regular full time veterinary surgeon who is familiar with the area and practice
• The duty vet will be familiar with any relevant history from the daytime if the animal has been hospitalised during the day
• The vet will have full access to any past medical/surgical history from computer records
• Not having to travel large distances to a different practice in a different area
• Not having to move ill or injured patients to be looked after in a different practice overnight
• Access to the same high quality equipment and facilities that you would expect during normal opening hours.
It can be a very worrying and distressing time, if your pet is taken ill - especially if this is when the surgery is normally closed. We are very aware of this and therefore this practice offers a full emergency service for all their clients, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
By having an on-site emergency service, clients benefit from:
