Why Choose Fish4Dogs?
  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids

All Fish4Dogs food and treats are high in the beneficial forms of Omega 3.

Not all Omega 3 is the same. It is the DHA and EPA forms – found mainly from marine sources, which are beneficial.

The ALA form of Omega 3 found in vegetable sources such as Flaxseed oil or Linseed oil must first be converted to EPA & DHA for it to benefit, and dogs lack the enzymes to do that efficiently; so marine sourced Omega 3 is what they need.

You also need to consider the ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3. We need both Omega 6 and Omega 3 but in the correct proportions. To put it in not particularly scientific terms, the Omega 6 excites the system and Omega 3 calms it back down – so we need the right balance. Fish4Dogs food and treats contain the correct ratio of Omega 3 and Omega 6.

Omega 6 is easily found in seeds, nuts and vegetables, so ensuring your dog has a good supply of marine sourced Omega 3 in their diet to help provide that balance in key.

    Benefits for skin & coat

Most coat and skin conditions, whatever their cause, involve inflammation of the skin, so reducing that inflammation helps alleviate the symptoms for your dog.

    Improve joint mobility

By reducing inflammation Omega 3 can help with mobility making tired, stiff and aching joints more supple.

    Brain development

Omega 3 is also highly concentrated in the brain and appears to be important for brain function, memory and behaviour in dogs.

  • Dental Care

Fish4Dogs food and treats, particularly our Sea Jerky treats, are a great tool to help keep your dog's teeth and gums healthy.

Gum disease occurs five times more often in dogs than in people, this is down to a lack of brushing and the fact that dogs’ mouths are more alkaline which promotes the formation of plaque.

Chewing is a good way to promote healthy dental care.  Our Sea Jerky is made of 100% dried fish skins which means they are super low in calories, the rough texture is perfect for removing tartar from teeth and they are really tasty, so your dog will love looking after their teeth.

The most common cause of gum disease in dogs is bacteria.

When you dog eats, the food, his saliva and bacteria all combine to form plaque, which coats your dog’s teeth. Luckily, plaque is soft and so more easily removed by brushing or chewing.

The body’s immune system tries to fight the bacteria in the plaque and the result is red, inflamed gums and if left for too long it can harden and become tartar. If tartar is left to build up, it can lead to gingivitis which if left untreated can cause periodontitis. This can bring abscess formation, loss of teeth and severe infections.  These infections can enter the blood stream and cause problems in the heart, lungs and kidneys.

  • Digestive Care

Fish is a high quality, easily digestible protein and so a fish rich diet can help ensure your dog is extracting all the nutrients, vitamins, fats, sugars and proteins they need to stay healthy.

For older dogs, or dogs with sensitivities or intolerances, ensuring they have a highly digestible food, with consistent recipes that are free from ingredients that could cause issues, is important.

All of our dry complete foods contain around 2.5% of fibre, and as fibre slows down digestion and gives a slow steady release of dietary sugar, our food is great for diabetic dogs.

Fibre also acts a pre-biotic meaning it promotes the growth of 'friendly' intestinal bacteria; this can help digest food, improve regularity and also boost immunity in your dog.

    Wheat Free

The role of the carbohydrate in dog food is to provide energy and also bind the other ingredients together.

Rather than using lower cost grains that many pet foods do, we use potato and pea. This means our grain free dog food provides all the energy your dog needs plus gives extra benefits too.

    Great for allergies or sensitivities

As with humans, intolerances and sensitivity to wheat and other grains in dogs is becoming more commonplace and so by ensuring our dog food and treats are grain free, you can happily feed your dog knowing they won't suffer any of the ill affects they would if they were to eat grains.

    Balanced Glycaemic Index

Glycaemic Index (GI) is the measure of the effects of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels. Carbohydrates that break down quickly and release glucose rapidly have a high GI and those that break down more slowly, a low GI.

By using both potato and pea, we are able to balance the GI of our food. Ensuring a balanced Glycaemic Index is important and that is what helps your dog feel fuller for longer.

  • Puppy Development

Fish4Dogs is the perfect start for your new best friend.  As it grows, your puppy is going through many significant changes, including:

    •     Brain & eye development
    •     Bone and joint development
    •     Development of the digestive system

Feeding Fish4Dogs can help give your puppy the best start due to:

    Proteins

Protein is the key building block of life. Every cell in the body contains protein; they are a major part of muscle, skin, organs and glands. There are two reasons why fish is the perfect protein for a growing pup.

Firstly, fish provides a great balance of the essential amino acids. Imbalances can require organs such as the liver and kidneys to work harder to excrete any unnecessary acids.

Secondly, a good protein should be easily digestible so the body an break it down to get at the goodness. Fish is very easily digested and so the body can quickly and efficiently break it down to absorb the benefits.

  • Skin & Coat

There are lots of reasons why your dog's skin or coat may be in poor health. As our food and treats contain Omega 3 and fish oils, feeding your dog Fish4Dogs can help improve their skin and coat condition.

    Low levels of intolerance

One of the common causes of skin conditions in dogs are allergies or sensitivities to foods. Wheat and beef are the most common intolerances, with others being pork, chicken, milk and maize. Fish4Dogs is made from ingredients that don’t cause these problems. In Fish4Dogs we use potato and pea as the carbohydrate – and all of these have very low levels of intolerance.

    Reducing inflammation

Many dog skin conditions are caused by inflammation. EPA & DHA Omega 3s found in Fish4Dogs food and treats are naturally anti-inflammatory, helping improve the condition of the skin by reducing irritation and improving the condition of the coat too.

    Hydrating the skin

Fish oils promote the production of sebum, an oily waxy substance that lubricates. With increased levels of sebum, the skin becomes supple and hydrated and the hair is coated with a protective oily layer, giving the coat a beautiful shine. This is something we hear from our customers all the time, they are amazed that within just a few weeks of feeding Fish4Dogs, their dogs coats have noticeably improved, look healthy, shiny and wonderful.

  • Joint Health

Omega 3 found in Fish4Dogs food can help improve some joint conditions in dogs. Joint conditions are particularly common in older dogs. The older dogs get, the more susceptible to joint problems they become. The Omega 3 found in Fish4Dogs food can help improve some joint conditions and also reduce the risk of developing issues in younger dogs through:

    Reducing joint inflammation

Omega 3 is a natural anti-inflammatory. The EPA and DHA found in marine sourced Omega 3, can help alleviate the symptoms of joint pain by reducing joint inflammation.

    Reducing cartilage breakdown

There is evidence to suggest that Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce cartilage breakdown by switching off the aggrecanases and other collagen-degrading enzymes that break down joint cartilage. So a fish rich diet can help keep those joints nice and supple.

  • Great Taste

A question we are often asked is "do dogs like the taste of fish?". The answer is a resounding YES.

Why do dogs love the taste and smell of fish so much?

Dogs have a highly developed sense of taste which allows them to quickly tell what they like and dislike. The highly developed sense of smell that dogs enjoy works together with the taste buds to build that sense of taste.

The stronger aromas and tastes, particularly the Umami taste, found in fish give a welcome relief to more bland alternatives. That’s why dogs love Fish4Dogs - it has a taste and aroma they love.

  • Weight Control

Fish4dogs offer great food and treats that not only are tasty but will also help you manage your dog's weight.

Around 40% of dogs in the UK are suffering from obesity. Obesity is an important issue and can lead to heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and other mobility problems.

We all like to treat our dogs, and there is nothing wrong with that. But we do have to take care that their overall calorie consumption, including treats, isn’t more than they need.

    Low Calorie Treats

We offer a great range of treats that are low in calories, particularly our Fish4Dogs Sea Jerky.

Our Sea Jerky treats are 100% baked fish skins and have as few as 3 calories per treat!

We like to promote sensible feeding and please remember our feeding guidelines are a guide, and how much food your dogs needs will vary depending on factors including their breed, activity level and age
