HOSPITALISATION

Information about what happens should your pet require hospitalisation at our practice.

Hospitalisation

By far the majority of cases that we manage are dealt with on an "out-patient" basis.  However, there are circumstances where your pet may need to admitted for longer than just the day.  This can be after complex surgery, or emergency admissions if your pet is very ill.
In the eventuality that your pet has to stay with us overnight or during the weekend during periods that we are normally closed, we need to ensure that we can continue to provide the appropriate level of care that is required.

  • We are not a hospital status practice and we sadly don't have the infrastructure or financial ability to have staff on-site and awake 24 hrs a day and 7 days a week.
  • If your pet is admitted to our practice, they can either remain hospitalised at our surgery continuously, or we do now have the capability to transfer them to the 24hr Veterinary Hospital in Leamington for further ongoing care.
  • You can decide (obviously with the advice of our staff) how you would like any night-time or weekend care to be provided.
  • Animals that remain hospitalised at our surgery are supervised during our normal opening hours, as well as during the late evening out-of-hours period that we cover between 7pm and 10pm.  There is also ongoing veterinary and nursing care available during the weekends too.
  • If we feel that continuous supervision is required (as can sometimes be the case) or you are not happy with leaving your pet at our practice during the night, then we can ensure smooth transfer of care to the Leamington Hospital.  Please note, that you will be responsible for the transportation of your pet in all but exceptional circumstances.
  • It has to be appreciated, that the ongoing costs of supervised care at any hospital practice are going to be greater than those accrued by your pet remaining at our practice

We genuinely find that most animals do not have to be moved and are better remaining at our surgery, however  we are delighted that being able to offer a genuine 24hr supervised care option for certain cases is something that our practice has never been able to offer before.

We have a great working relationship with the Medivet Leamington Veterinary Hospital and have had lots of very positive feedback since they have started providing our emergency out of hours care.

Please don't hesitate to discuss any questions that you have with any of our veterinary or nursing team.
