SUSTAINABILLTY
Our commitment to sustainability
Caring for the environment - a positive pawprint!
As a practice, we believe we have a responsibility to care for the wider environment. Over the past 8 years we have made the following changes:
- We now have 2 large recycling bins to allow us to recycle our packaging materials and non-hazardous waste.
- We try to use the sun to dry all our washing (bedding etc) in the summer to reduce the use of our tumble dryer
- We have reduced our deliveries from daily, to twice a week to reduce the amount of CO2 produced by wholesale delivery by 60%
- We aim to buy our electricity from renewable sources.
- Our parent company, IVC, aims to use third-party companies that have a good/excellent sustainability record.
- We have improved our anaesthetic protocols meaning less waste gas emissions.
- We have upgraded all our lighting to LED where possible, away from more inefficient incandescent or fluorescent lighting.
- We have removed single glazed units at the back of the building and replaced with double-glazing.
- Some staff have altered shift patterns to reduce the number of journeys to work.
- Computers and air-conditions have timers on now to prevent being left on accidentally when the building is empty.
- HIVE controlled thermostats and zoned heating of the building for more efficient heating/cooling
- Blister-pack recycling for clients to bring their used medication packaging back to us for recycling.
Coming soon....
- Hanging baskets around the building to improve the look and provide flowering plants for bees.
