Medication Update: 15th July 2025

Product Supply Issue: INCURIN™ tablets

There is currently a nationwide supply issue with the medication INCURIN™.  Your pet may have been prescribed INCURIN™ to control bladder weakness/urinary incontinence.

There is no alternative to this product - either in the veterinary or the human field that contains the same active ingredient- Estriol.

We have now used up all of our existing supply, there is no stock left at the wholesalers or the internet pharmacies.

What can I do?

We are able to prescribe an alternative drug, that contains a different active ingredient. Medications containing phenylpropanolamine are available, and these products are licensed to treat the same conditions that Incurin™ is used to treat.

These products are liquids that generally need to be given 2-3 times daily.  We can supply a product called Incovet™, or there are other brands available such as Urilin™ or Propalin™

Are these products as effective?

On the whole, we really don't like changing pets' prescriptions, if we know their current medication is working well and tolerated. However, situations like this, whilst far from ideal, are beyond our control.

Phenylpropanolamine is a very safe and well established medication that has been used for many years to treat urinary incontinence.  We find that the success rate with treating urinary problem with both Estriol and Phenylpropanolamine is generally very good. However, like all medications, we do sometimes find that some animals "suit/respond" to one drug better than another.

What about the long-term?

We hope that the supply issue will be resolved quickly, and as soon as the supply of Incurin™ tablets return, we would would hope to move patients back onto this medication again as soon as possible.

However, as of yet, we do not know when the product will come back into stock.

What happens next?

If you have asked for a repeat prescription for Incurin™, you may find that this has been substituted with one of the medications containing pheylpropanolamine.  Please be careful to read the instructions on (and in) the packet carefully before using.

If you have any concerns or questions, then please do give us a ring and talk to one of the vets or nurses.

We apologise for this, however this is a nationwide shortage, and is beyond our immediate control.  Thank you for your understanding.
